Viruses are evil programs that are written by people know as lusers. Computer Viruses are so named because of their similarity to normal viruses. They spread quickly around the world, their old spread vector was floppy disks, the new one is email attachments. Virus scanners can find and eliminate viruses from these vectors or other locations before the virus can activate and do damage.
Click on the Start Button
Navigate the Start menu as ShownThrough Programs and into Norton Anti Virus
Select Norton Anti Virus
This dialog comes up when Norton AV loads.
But Norton Antivirus is running in your computer all the time. If we look at the
running tasks using system information you can see this happening.
Viruses are normally checked for when you recieve mail or copy files into the
computer. Sometimes you want to check a disk for viruses even if you haven't
copied any files onto it
Click on the Scan menu item and Select Scan Computer
This brings up a choice of drives and directories. Select what you want to scan from this area. Then click on the scan button.
When the virus scan is complete Norton AntiVirus displays the dialog box below. If it had found a virus then the information would be displayed in the text box.
To abort the virus scan at any time press the Close Window Button
